An Amazing Line-up of Authors and Illustrators Announced for the Biggest Book Show on Earth Tour

7 Feb 2018

A fantastic line-up of authors and illustrators has been announced for the Biggest Book Show on Earth tour, which will be held in Aberystwyth and Carmarthen for the first time ever this year. Almost 1,500 children, aged between 9 and 11, will attend these events free of charge.

Aberystwyth Arts Centre will host the show on Wednesday, 28 February 2018, presented by author Steven Butler and featuring well-known authors Frank Cottrell-Boyce, Atinuke, Malachy Doyle, Tracey Corderoy & Steven Lenton, and Jonathan Meres.

The following week, on Wednesday, 7 March 2018, Carmarthen’s Lyric Theatre will host the show, featuring another impressive line up of Welsh-language authors, poets and illustrators. Bardd Plant Cymru (Children’s Poet Laureate) Casia Wiliam will be joined by Mererid Hopwood, Aneirin Karadog, Huw Aaron, Huw Davies, Meleri Wyn James and Meilyr Siôn.

Organised by the Welsh Books Council in partnership with World Book Day and Waterstones, the two dates in Wales are part of a UK-wide tour which also stops in the following host locations: Dublin, Oswestry, Doncaster, Brighton and Newcastle. In each location, World Book Day works closely with local partners to bring the events to life, arranging bookselling and coordinating with local schools to invite children to attend. In addition to these dates, there will be two 30-minute exclusive online ‘specials’, including an Illustrator Extravaganza, available for schools, bookshops and libraries to stream from the World Book Day website. (These online specials are available in the English language only.)

Angharad Sinclair, Reading Promotions Project Manager for the Welsh Books Council, said, "It’s a wonderful opportunity for local children to be entertained and inspired by some fantastic authors. The chance to interact with authors and illustrators of this calibre can plant a seed that can grow into a true love of reading and literature."
