A Raid over Berlin - a miraculous True-life Second World War Survival Story

17 Sep 2018

96-year-old Lancaster Bomber John Martin to receive a copy of his secretly-published memoir,  A Raid over Berlin  on BBC1's The One Show.

Trapped inside a burning Lancaster bomber, 20,000 feet above Berlin, rookie airman John Martin consigned himself to his fate and turned his thoughts to his fiancée back home receiving news of his death. In a miraculous turn of events, however, the 21-year-old was thrown clear of his disintegrating aeroplane but, as he found himself parachuting into the heart of Nazi Germany, he knew that his problems were only just beginning. His inspiring account will be released in paperback this October to coincide with his appearance on BBC1's The One Show  on 10 October 2018.

This awe-inspiring true-life account of a Second World War airman, who cheated death in the sky, only to face interrogation and the prospect of being shot by the Gestapo, before having to endure months of hardship as a prisoner of war, is a poignant reminder of what our veterans endured to secure the freedom we enjoy today.

London-born John Martin volunteered for the RAF, as a trainee wireless operator, in 1941, aged nineteen, and was stationed at RAF Cardington in Bedfordshire.

John (96) and his wife Adelaide (95) are still happily married and living in Tanygroes, west Wales.

A Raid Over Berlin  by John Martin will be released by Parthian Books on 10 OCT 2018
