I come from Dyffryn Nantlle originally but I’ve been a student in Aberystwyth since 2020. I’m currently studying for an MPhil degree in Welsh Creative Writing in Aberystwyth University. During the last few years I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to the digital magazine Lysh Cymru, as well as being a guest editor for a short period. I’ve also contributed to two issues of Codi Pais magazine. My first short story to be published appeared in Ar Amrantiad this year (Sebra press), and I hope to pursue my literary career by working in the publishing industry in Wales.
Reading has always been one of my favourite interests, and it was this interest which inspired me to create my own stories. My favourite book when I was three years old was Strempan, one of the stories from Angharad Tomos’ Rwdlan series, and this series and the world the author created – Gwlad y Rwla – were favourites of mine for many reasons. Some of the authors which I treasured as a child were Mary Vaughan Jones, Angharad Tomos, Bethan Gwanas, Jacqueline Wilson, Roald Dahl and Philip Pullman. I really enjoy books from various genres – from fantasy to science fiction and romance. I particulary enjoy books which challenge our way of thinking.
When I’m not reading or writing, I enjoy listening to music or going to the cinema or theatre. My favourite production this year so far is Nye (NT Live) which I saw in the cinema at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre. Knitting is another pasion of mine; it’s a form of therapy for me as it helps me to relax. I love knitting all kinds of things!
It’s such an honour to be on the judges’ panel this year, and I’m really looking forward to reading all of the books. Diolch yn fawr!
