Summer Reading Challenge

The Summer Reading Challenge is held annually during the school holidays, at a time when children’s interest in books and reading can dip if they’re not encouraged to read for pleasure.

In Wales, the Challenge has helped get more than 39,000 to visit their local library every year and to maintain their reading skills and confidence by encouraging children between 4–11 years old to read 6 books during the summer holidays

You can register and take part at your local library, where you can also choose six books to read in order to complete the challenge. Watch the video for a taste of what is available, free, at your library.

The Reading Agency is responsible for the Summer Reading Challenge and works in partnership with Libraries in Wales, with support from the Welsh Government and the Books Council of Wales. For further details,  please visit cymru.summerreadingchallenge.org.uk.
